Crocodile Pond
A quiet lagoon where crocodiles bask on the banks, and storks, egrets and sometimes elephants come down to the water.

Arugam Bay is a crescent of golden sand on the south-east coast and one of the best-known surf destinations in Asia. The long right-hand point break at Main Point draws surfers from around the world, while gentler breaks nearby suit beginners.
Beyond the waves, the area mixes lagoons, sand dunes and jungle. Elephants wander near the lagoons, ancient hermitages hide in the forest, and Kumana National Park lies just to the south. In season the main road fills with cafés, beach bars and music, while the town keeps its easy, barefoot pace.
Visit Kudumbigala or Kumana early in the morning for wildlife, and book surf lessons a day ahead in July and August.
